Vive nelle praterie aride e semi-aride con presenza di acqua dell'Etiopia e del Kenya sebbene recentemente è stata registrata la presenza anche anche nel Sudan meridionale.

Size

Con un peso massimo di 450 kg, è la più grande fra le zebre e presenta una testa massiccia con orecchie arrotondate.

Behavior

Territoriale e gregaria, la madre con il cucciolo si unisce in branchi costituiti anche da centinaia di individui durante il periodo migratorio. Le mandrie sono instabili e i legami sociali tra gli individui sono solo di natura temporanea.

Reproduction

Durante il periodo riproduttivo i maschi difendono un territorio ricco di cibo e acqua per attrarre un numero elevato di femmine. Dopo una gestazione di circa 13 mesi, nasce un solo piccolo che dopo un’ora è già in grado di camminare e seguire il branco durante gli spostamenti.

Diet

Erbivoro, è un brucatore che si nutre di diverse varietà di erba, scava con gli zoccoli per raggiungere le fonti d’acqua sotterranee

Alla fine degli anni '70 la popolazione di Zebra di Grevy era stimata in circa 15.000 esemplari, attualmente se ne contano solo 3.000.

Threat Level

Le principali minacce sono dovute alla deviazione dell'acqua dai fiumi per l'irrigazione, alla competizione con il bestiame domestico e al bracconaggio per la carne e la pelle.

This is the most comprehensive inventory that codifies the degree of threat to species globally based on a system of categories and scientifically rigorous quantitative criteria.
